INSTAGRAM HASHTAGS!

If you want others to find your profile. You must use relevant hashtags.

What is a hashtag?

It’s a way for you to tag and categorize your post with keywords that your audience is using and searching for.

If someone is searching for a wedding photographer, use hashtags that relate to the wedding industry. For example #FloridaWedding #BridesOfFlorida…etc.

These tags are your search helper and a good friend.

How to find hashtags that are relevant to your posts.

Don’t use hashtags like #love #happy or even #likeforlike.

These hashtags are un-targeted to who you are trying to attract to your account. People have posted MILLIONS of posts that are linked to those tags. If you use those tags the likelihood of someone seeing your post in a sea of MILLIONS is very very slim.

Aim for hashtags that have between 20,000-50,000 posts.

Or if your account is brand new, aim for 1,000 to 10,000 posts per hashtag.

Use ones that are relevant to your area. For example, a local hashtag for Florida is #VisitFlorida.

Once you’ve gained traction on your account and have reached 5,000 or more followers you can start finding hashtags in the 100,000 posts.

And continue on. If you have over 100,000 followers, use hashtags with 250,000 posts

How to find the right hashtags…

Go on Instagram.

Go to the search bar and type in your account’s niche, focus, category, keyword.

Scroll down through the hashtags and find one that matches your account’s focus and has between 10,000 and 50,000 posts.

If there aren’t any good ones, go and enter a similar keyword.

Please note hashtags have to be ONE word. Capitalization doesn’t matter: You are able to have whatever capitalization you want in the words themselves and the hashtags will show the same results. For example #FloridaWedding and #floridawedding will show the same search results.

Instagram allows you to have 30 hashtags. So do this exercise until you’ve found 10-30 tags you are satisfied with.

I save these tags in a notes app on my cell phone. That way whenever I post to Instagram I can just copy and paste the tags in a comment right after I post.

*posting in the comments section still links the hashtags with your post. Also, I love that others can’t see all the hashtags in the caption!
